Our first project: Our Big Kitchen

July 4, 2010

There are many things that we considered when deciding on what our first project would be. We wanted to support a charity we felt passionate about, in terms of their goals and the people who were running the charity. When we met Rabbi Slavin and his wife Laya and Rebecca from Our Big Kitchen we knew right away that not only did we want to financially support this incredible charity but also to get our hands dirty – literally and help this fantastic community grow.

Our Big Kitchen (OBK) is a local community initiative providing opportunities for individuals to join together to support others. It is a commercial kosher kitchen which is never quiet – blenders, ovens, hot plates and taps are always being used, phones are ringing with people offering to volunteer their time and calls are being answered from people in need of support.

Our first experience at OBK was helping out with a ‘Cook In’. Young people coming to together with a common goal and all surrounding food and cooking. What better place could we wish to be in. Since this first experience we have helped with preparing a Shavuot banquet which was shared with 80 new friends and colleagues; have run cooking classes for Bar Mitzvah boys and their families, and a group of overseas Uni Students and most recently hosted and run our very own Cook In.

With the help of 5 phenomenal friends and the amazing facilities at Our Big Kitchen we prepared and cooked a Spanish Paella filled with purpose-made Chorizo from Eilat at Hadassah Kosher Butchers and topped with Spanish-style roasted chicken. We completed 60 serves which went out to people for Shabbat the next day.

We hope you enjoy a couple of photos from our Cook In.

If you’re looking to get involved in something really meaningful, OBK are always looking for volunteers and support.

A huge thank you!

April 4, 2010

To all our family and friends,

We want to thank you all for helping to make our wedding such a memorable occasion. We had an absolute ball and hope you did too!

We are overwhelmed by your wonderful support of The Pomegranate Fund. Thank you for helping our dream of establishing a charitable foundation, on the occasion of our wedding, a reality.

Our intention is to continue to grow our fund for many years to come and if you would like to help, donations are always welcome.

We hope to post details of our first project very soon.

Lots of love

Adam and Zoe

In lieu of gifts…

January 1, 2010

We are finally taking the plunge into life as a married couple and rather than accepting gifts on the occasion of our wedding, we wanted to mark this exciting time by harnessing the unique opportunity and generousity of our family and friends to establish a fund that will grow with us into the future.

With the help of Melbourne Community Foundation (MCF), we have established The Pomegranate Fund. Our primary aim is to use this fund as a platform to support charities for Health, Education and Community Development. In order for our fund to grow we plan to make regular contributions from our own finances and hopefully from our families and friends.

We will be working with the MCF to identify potential beneficiaries that are pursuing projects which we feel passionate about supporting and for which our donations can make a meaningful difference.

We will use this website to keep you up to date on the information regarding these projects and our involvement within them. We also hope it inspires you to make a difference.

Please click here for details of how you can contribute. We are truly appreciative of any support you can give.

Thank You,
